HIGH SCHOOL SCENE

sciencepalooza!

Budding scientists from Silver Creek, Evergreen and Mt. Pleasant high schools will compete against students from other East Side Union High School District schools for recognition and prizes at sciencepalooza! 2006, the annual science fair for more than 1,700 ESUHSD students.

sciencepalooza! will be held on Feb. 11 at the Fairgrounds with the awards ceremony beginning at noon in Gateway Hall. Admission is free.

Students will display the product of many months of research and will have their projects scored by volunteer judges from industry and academia. Winners of Einstein and Galileo Awards for most outstanding projects will receive Amazon.com gift certificates, and the Synopsys Outreach Foundation Award will go to the school that has entered projects of the highest quality.

Event sponsors include the Synopsys Outreach Foundation, Fry’s Electronics and the Wells Fargo Foundation.

More than 1,700 ESUHSD students are expected to attend sciencepalooza! in 2006.	Students will display the product of many months of research and will have their projects scored by volunteer judges from industry and academia.

Donate your old cell phones to Silver Creek HS

Did you get a new cell phone over the holidays? Do you have old cell phones to get rid of at home?

The Spanish Language advanced placement class of Silver Creek High School is collecting discarded cell phones to help offset the cost of their AP test taken in the spring. The class can earn up to $25 per phone!

You can help them recycle these old cell phones by placing them in a bag or manila envelope and bringing or sending them before Jan. 31 to Silver Creek High School, attention Mrs. Amstrup, 3434 Silver Creek Rd., San Jose, Calif. 95121.

You will help save the environment, clean out your home and help students lower the cost of taking the test.
