“With this award, we say thank you to the people who are doing great work in the community to combat the negative health trends that are barriers to healthier children and families.”

East Valley Family YMCA recently paid tribute to local partners who help children and adults in San Jose live healthy lives. The 2nd annual YMCA Activate America Awards recognize business, school, government, and faith community leaders who promote increased physical activity, healthy eating, and health education for families through their programs, services, communications, and policies.

East Valley Family YMCA presented awards to several partners, including the school districts of Ever-green, Eastside Union High School, and Alum Rock, Arbuckle Elementary School, and the Pediatric Lifestyle Behavior Center of San Jose. In addition to other partnerships, East Valley also collaborates with local doctors to educate families, offer financial assistance for YMCA memberships for families in 10 schools, sponsor walks and runs at Lake Cunningham Park, and offer programs during school and after school that encourage physical activity.

“With this award, we say thank you to the people who are doing great work in the community to combat the negative health trends that are barriers to healthier children and families,” said Mario Vargas, executive director of East Valley Family YMCA. “These leaders are creating momentum by being role models for other organizations to promote healthy living so that our children and families can live happier, healthier lives.”
