Champions of art
The city of San Jose’s Office of Cultural Affairs has announced that nominations are open for the Champions of Arts Education Awards. The awards honor exemplary educators, administrators, parents, schools and partners who champion high quality arts education programs in San Jose’s public schools.
“With arts education gaining much deserved political and educational momentum in our schools, the city of San Jose, the Office of Cultural Affairs, and the Arts Commission are eager to recognize the exemplary and groundbreaking work taking place within public schools throughout our city,” said Lisa Gonzales, arts commissioner, city of San Jose, California.
According to Gonzales, nominations are welcomed from anyone, including self-nominations. The award categories include: Distinguished Arts Educator, Distinguished Administrator, Distinguished Parent Advocate, Distinguished School and Distinguished Corporate/Business Partner.
Nominations are being accepted until 5 p.m., Jan. 31, and may be mailed or delivered to Arts Awards, San Jose Office of Cultural Affairs, 365 S. Market Street, San Jose, CA 95113.
Awards will be announced the week of Mar. 17. The awards announcement takes place during California Arts Education Month—a month-long celebration in which California counties, school districts, museums, performing arts centers, libraries and government buildings host events that illustrate the importance and lifelong benefits of arts education.
