Place moratorium on development until traffic
solutions are in place

Editor,
I recently had a look at the Web site associated with the “Evergreen Visioning Pro-ject.” There are a lot of details, which I am still digesting, but one of the things I notice is that there is a push for continued development.

While I do not have a problem with well-managed growth, my concern is that insufficient work is being done to support the increased traffic levels that result.

I see that in the project report there is talk of reducing the wait for traffic to get onto 101 northbound in the morning from 17 minutes to 13 minutes. I don’t know many people who would herald this as significant relief!

I would not be surprised to find that the commute to and from the Evergreen area is the worst in San Jose, if not Santa Clara Valley. When I speak to co-workers who also live in Evergreen, we talk about the awful commute being the worst part about living here.

I believe that Evergreen residents should talk to their representatives about a moratorium on further development in the area until solutions for the traffic problems are in place.

Personal attacks belittle a position

Editor,
I wish to respond to Kevin Liao’s letter to the editor, “Take this great nation back from the right-wing radicals,” Evergreen Times, Dec. 4-17, 2004.

Perhaps it would be wise for Kevin to overcome his anger and direct his energy in a more positive direction. After all, the re-election of President Bush has passed. Right or wrong, Kevin has strong convictions, but he might consider modifying how he presents them.

He might learn to refrain from personal attacks on one who he feels has an opinion different from his. Personal attacks belittle his position, not the one he sees as an adversary. It confirms a certain immaturity, but then of course, he is only a middle-school age child.

Further, Kevin might learn to cite sources for the claims he makes, as offering credible sources for his statements would make him believable. Good, solid, reliable information whether over the Internet, from the library or from scholarly works, is available to all, even to a middle-school age child who is interested in learning the truth and the facts on any subject.
