Coroner’s Case
3000 block of Via Mimosa (The Villages)
Police responded to the above location on report of an attended death. Officers arrived on the scene and found the 86 year-old victim had apparently passed away in his sleep. The victim suffered from a number of health problems and had a “Do Not Resuscitate” on file. There was no indication of foul play; the death appears to be the result of natural causes.

Arson
2900 block of Aborn Square
Police responded to a report of arson at the above location. When officers arrived on-scene, they found a Toyota mini van fully engulfed in front of the Ross department store. A witness told police that she saw a male adult walk up to the van and throw a lit newspaper inside. No one was inside the vehicle at the time of the fire. The suspect fled on foot. The Fire Department responded, put out the flames and taped off the area for arson investigators. They responded, took the report and the investigation. There are no suspects at this time.

Automobile vs. Pedestrian Accident
Aborn Road at Brigadoon Avenue
An automobile versus pedestrian injury accident occurred at the above location. A 65- year-old female and her 3-year-old grandson were northbound crossing Aborn Road against a red signal in the crosswalk at the intersection of Brigadoon Avenue. Vehicles westbound on Aborn Road in lanes number one and number two stopped for the pedestrians crossing. A third vehicle westbound on Aborn Road in Lane number three failed to see the pedestrians crossing and hit them. The injuries to both pedestrians were not life threatening and they were transported via ambulance to Valley Medical Center. There were no injuries to the driver.

Attempted Robbery, Assault with a Deadly Weapon
2800 block of South White Road
After closing his deli, the victim, a 34-year-old Asian male, heard someone at the side door. He approached the door and saw a person dressed in dark clothes with a ski mask covering its face. The victim heard the suspect shouting and then saw a small handgun pointed at him through the plate glass window. The victim began to run toward the rear of the business when the suspect fired several rounds at him through the glass. The victim sustained some superficial cuts to his arm from flying glass, and the suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction. The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics, but declined further medical treatment.

Community Policing Meeting
Dove Elementary School
On Dec.11, a community-policing meeting was held at Dove Hill Elementary School. Councilmember Dave Cortese joined Captain Ferguson, Lt. Tanaka, Lt. Saito, Sgt. Cleaver, Officer Albin and Officer Le from Crime Prevention and about 30 members of the neighborhood. The Bobby Tang shooting on Oct. 23 and general crime in the area were topics of discussion. Several neighbors also complained about teens hanging out at the park and drinking, between the hours of 7 to 9 p.m. Another complaint had to do with speeding cars, racing and side shows. The meeting lasted approximately 1.5 hours.
