Proposal to add another full-service grocery in Evergreen is a poor plan

Dear Editor,
Being a resident of Evergreen for 21 years, I would like to express my concern regarding allowing another full-service grocery operation to be developed at the Evergreen Valley College site.

It’s common knowledge that Cosentino’s and Lunardi’s have been struggling financially at their Evergreen locations. My feeling is that if Cosentino’s and Lunardi’s have to struggle to maintain their operations, a third store would do nothing but hurt both of them.

It is again my feeling that if Cosentino’s and Lunardi’s are failing, then adjoining tenants will suffer and eventually also fail. This proposal to add another full-service grocery operation is a poor plan. I am strongly against allowing another full-service grocery operation to be developed at the Evergreen Valley College site.

I hope the San Jose/Evergreen Valley College District understands my concern and reconsiders this development.

Sincerely,

Fred Lettenberger

Be considerate of employees working in retail

Dear Editor,
My wife works at a major national retail store at Eastridge. Lots of shoppers are very sloppy as they look for the perfect sweater or pair of pants. What begins on a rack or in a nice neat stack in the morning ends up in one big mess by the time the store closes.

After working an 8- to 12-hour day, the employees have to clean everything up. My wife has been working until 3 and 4 in the morning so that the store can open looking the way it should.

Please be considerate of employees working in retail, especially during this busy shopping time of the year. It affects everyone in my family when shoppers leave a mess that my wife has to clean up before she’s allowed to go home.

Thank you,

D.N.
