EVC awarded $63,000 in financial aid

Grove Foundation of Los Altos chose to provide financial aid to Evergreen Valley College students totaling more than $63,000 to be disbursed in a 20-month period.

EVC’s Ingrid Rottman submitted a successful 15-page grant application to the Grove Foundation of Los Altos that will provide $63,000 of financial aid to EVC students.

The funding will come to EVC as the result of a successful 15-page grant application written by Ingrid Rottman, program specialist for the Transfer/Career/ Cooperative Education Center and Scholarship Committee chair.

This financial aid provides qualified high school students up to $4,000 to spend on tuition, books and related educational expenses. Eligibility for this program is contingent upon the student’s plan to complete a career-focused Associates or Certificate program in a community college or training institute setting, with the goal of obtaining employment in their chosen field upon graduation.

The goal of the foundation is to ensure that School-to-Career education is accepted, respected and supported.

“Often times the focus of scholarships and financial aid is the transfer student,” explains EVC President David Wain Coon. “And we are good at supporting these students. The Grove Foundation grant will extend our existing support to students in technical programs. We are excited this money will be extended to local high-school graduates.”

- $20,000 will be given to EVC immediately to serve Grove Scholars already on the campus for the remainder of this academic year and for planning and coordinating the arrival of the incoming scholars in Fall 2006.

- $43,060 will be paid to EVC on or around July 1 to fund the program for the 2006-07 academic year.

Students in the program must be enrolled full time and funds will be dispersed through the SJ/ECCD Business Services offices. SJ/ECCD will provide orientations, faculty mentors, special advisors and activities (academic and social) for the scholars and track and report progress of the scholars to the Grove Foundation.

The Grove Foundation is the family Foundation of Intel Chairman and past CEO Andy Grove and his wife Eva. The Groves initiated the School-to-Career scholarship program in 1998 to give students with a focused career goal the opportunity to achieve their potential.
