NEWS BRIEFS
Rain forces cancellation of Night of Lights 2006
For only the second time in its 21-year history in Evergreen, the annual Night of Lights celebration, slated for Dec. 9 at Raging Waters in Lake Cunningham Regional Park from 6 to 7 p.m., was cancelled because of rain.
Carol Allsup of the Evergreen Valley Service Organization (EVSO), which organizes the event each year, said the group’s committee met earlier in the afternoon on the day of the event to assess the weather situation, and collectively decided to cancel the event because of a steady downpour of rain.
“The decision to cancel, after weeks of preparation, was a very painful one,” she said. “The idea behind Night of Lights is and has always been to observe a traditional Christmas celebration and to bring together our Evergreen Valley friends and neighbors.”
Allsup, who credited numerous community members and volunteers for their support for the event throughout the years, said the EVSO committee remains “forever optimistic” and plans on organizing the event once again for the 2007 Christmas season.

David Lynch |
Three-time Oscar nominated director David Lynch will appear at the brand new Barnes & Noble bookstore, located at 2200 Eastridge Loop #1420 at the newly renovated Eastridge Shopping Center, on Saturday Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. to sign copies of his newly published book Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness and Creativity.
In a rare work of public disclosure, David Lynch describes his personal methods of capturing and working with ideas, and the immense creative benefits he has experienced from the practice of meditation. In brief chapters, Lynch describes the experience of "diving within" and "catching" ideas like fish-and then preparing them for television or movie screens, and other mediums in which Lynch works, such as photography and painting. Following a spirited discussion of his book and other works, David Lynch will autograph copies of his books for one and all.
A successful film director, David Lynch has masterminded the merger of art house cinema and Hollywood moviemaking with such notable cult hits as Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Wild At Heart, Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive. Catching the Big Fish provides revelations to legions of fans that have longed for a better understanding of Lynch’s deeply personal vision.
