Republican Club installs 2008 officers
By Marjorie Maloney Bunn
The Republican Club at The Villages installed its 2008 officers at the Dec. 5 General Meeting/Luncheon. Gary Hill was installed as the new president. Bill Eckert and Walt Crosier will serve as first and second vice presidents respectively.
The secretary position will be shared by Carolyn Hill and Barbara Swiontek, and the treasurer post will be shared by Betty Ruboyianes and Elves Malfante. Lee Sullivan will be the new editor of the Republican Club newsletter.
This annual meeting was also the time when Republicans banded together to think of those less fortunate, sharing their good fortune in the form of "Toys for Tots", a program sponsored by the local Marines and our nearby fire station. Over 100 gifts were donated by the Club and distributed to the Marines on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
Pat Waite, a candidate for Vice Mayor Dave Cortese’s District 8 city council seat, gave a talk about his political beliefs and answered questions from the audience.
Darren Shaw, the new Villages general manager, discussed his role and his willingness to work with all the board members, his staff and committee members. He reiterated his wish to have an open door policy for all Villager residents. Shaw also reviewed current projects going on in the Villages. After an active question and answer period with Shaw, the meeting was adjourned for a delicious dinner.
