Hosting a New Years Party

Throwing a New Year's Eve party is a great way to end the holiday season and bring in a new year with close friends and family. In addition, planning a New Year's Eve party can actually be a very simple and stress free task. By making a few arrangements in advance, you will be able to sit back and enjoy the party with your guests.

Decorations: Use items such as balloons, streamers and confetti to create a party atmosphere. Regular household lighting is often too bright or obtrusive for a party; create a more subtle glow by lighting candles, building a fire, and hanging holiday string lights.

Food: Rather than prepare a large meal, offer an array of appetizers and finger foods to your guest. This will allow for less preparation before and during the party, as well as for easy clean up. You may also want to ask each guest to bring a dish or a dessert item to share.

Entertainment: Though most of the guests will probably spend their time socializing, have a few board or card games available for amusement. Also, gather your favorite CDs before hand and have them ready to play throughout the evening.

Children: Since many parents are unable to find babysitters for New Year's Eve, you may want to cater your party to children as well. Designate one room in your house as a kid's room and fill it with toys, video games, and craft supplies.

Don't forget to keep your eye on the clock and gather everyone to watch the ball drop at midnight!

I wish you and your family a very Happy New Year.
