Raise money for Silver Creek when you shop at Lucky and Save-Mart
Do you have one of the new Lucky/Save-Mart S.H.A.R.E.S cards? With this card, you simply have the store swipe it every time you shop for groceries. Pay the same way you always do.
It is that easy, and Silver Creek High School will get 3 percent of your purchase donated to the school! So, as an example, spend $100, pay your usual $100...and the school will get a $3 donation!
To get your card, either stop by the SCHS administration building or email SilverCreekPTSA@sbcglobal.net and provide your mailing address, and one will be sent to you.
Winter pruning and other winter
garden tasks
Master Gardener Sue Bell will talk about which shrubs to prune and not prune, and what to do in the garden in the winter. Sue has an extensive garden and is known for her passion for design and cut flowers so come with your questions!
It’s free. Friday, Jan. 9 from 7 –8 p.m. at the Evergreen Library, 2635 Aborn Rd.
Christmas Story to be told at Grace Church

A highlight of this Christmas season for children and adults of all ages is the Annual Christmas Story Presentation of Grand Commission Baptist Church. Children and adults in costume supported by dramatic readings in English and Spanish, special effects lighting, acoustic guitars with music and story ensure that the “Christmas Story” warms every heart and recalls fond memories of Christmas past and the joy of Christmas present.
The event is free. Refreshments follow the program in the Hall. The “Christmas Story” presentation will be held on Sunday, Dec. 21 at 5 p.m. Grand Commission Baptist can be located at Grace Church, 2650 Aborn Road (at Kettmann), San Jose. Happy Birthday, Eleanor
Evergreen resident Eleanor Vargas is celebrating her 90 birthday on Dec. 1.
Eleanor was born to Anthone and Mary Sota in San Jose, where she has remained her whole life. She quit high school in the 11 grade during the depression to help her widowed mother provide for ten siblings. In 1936 she married William “Bill” Vargas. She and Bill farmed hay and cattle-ranched for 54 years before he passed. Together they built their lives and family: two children, Richard and Janice; daughter in law, Patty Nelson Vargas; late daughter in law Marie Pierce Vargas; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren. Her family is what she lives for and never says no to them. She believes you are what you eat, enjoys cooking and gardening, and feels blessed for her good health all these years and continues to keep busy managing her own household and selling hay for her grandsons.

Rotary Club hosts solar energy expert
“Cost-effective solar-energy technologies have the greatest potential to benefit our nation and the world.” Marni Kamzan, Community Program Coordinator for REC Solar, Inc., while speaking to the San Jose East/Evergreen Rotary Club at their meeting at the National Hispanic University on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act, approved on Oct. 3, provides for a new 30 percent federal tax credit for residential solar systems.
