Cub Scout Pack 222 scores big for Second Harvest Food Bank

Second Harvest Food Back received 3,346 pounds of canned and dry food from Cub Scout Pack 222.

Thirty Cub Scouts from seven dens participated in making this the largest collection of this annual Cub Scout Pack event, 47 percent over last year’s collection.

Cub Scout Pack 222 is hosted by James Franklin Elementary School in San Jose. Last year, Pack 222 collected more than any other Cub Scout Pack in the Sierra District. The final tally has not been counted yet to see how they placed this year.

Eight second graders in the Wolf Cubs, led by Jim Hansell, collected 876 pounds of food and won an ice cream/pizza party.

The Scouting For Food 2006 Drive was chaired by Linda Dashiell, who organized the first through fifth graders, making this the most successful food drive ever for the Pack.

The Cub Scouts received donations from holiday shoppers in five Evergreen grocery stores. On Saturday, Nov. 18, they then went door to door in their own neighborhoods collecting food.

Marc Albin, Leader of Pack 222, said, “I think it’s great that everyone came together to make this so successful. We collected a lot of food and had a lot of fun. Thank you to everyone who helped.”
