On Point

Plenty to give thanks for

Happy Thanksgiving. Even with concerns over the current economic crisis and the decrease in our retirement plans, I’m sure all of us can find things to be thankful for.

Personally, I am thankful for my family: my wife, daughter, son-in-law and two beautiful grandchildren. My health is good and we have wonderful friends. I do wish I could play golf better.

Enjoyment also comes to me through meeting and writing about the residents of Evergreen. We have a wealth of interesting people and events and I like to share their stories with the reader of the Evergreen times. Thank you for the article and news items you send. Keep ‘em coming.

I appreciate the volunteers in our community. At this time of year, it seems the opportunities and the needs are greater. The community is responding with gifts of food and money to help those in need. The hunger may not go away after the immediate appeals. Those who can help should do it on a continuing basis.

I’m always pleased to see the good works of our Boy and Girl Scouts and our high school students. They are learning the value of service giving back to the community.

We still have young men and women serving overseas in dangerous situations and we should be thankful they are willing to serve our Unites States.

I’m thankful that Evergreen passed Mea-sure T so that our children will have more teachers and materials to help them learn. We need to get to work to change the way our district gets funding. It should not get the least of all the districts in the county.

There’s always more to say than there is space to write, but there’s always the next issue.

Here’s to a happy holiday season for all of us.
