Local businesses accept donations to help abused persons
Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence is a nonprofit organization devoted solely to providing life-saving options and safety resources for victims of domestic violence and their children. For more than 37 years, Next Door has provided prevention and intervention services to women, men, children and teens in Santa Clara County. When victims need a safe person to talk to, our 24-hour hotline is there. When abused moms and their children need a safe place to stay, our shelter is there. Next Door’s continuum of services gives domestic violence victims choices in rebuilding their lives.

Biehl earns CSBA Masters in Governance certificate
Frank Biehl, a trustee of the East Side Union High School District, has completed the California School Boards Asso-ciation Masters in Governance program.

A former business owner, Biehl was elected a trustee in 2006. He currently serves as the Vice-President of the Santa Clara County School Board Association. In 2007 Biehl was appointed to MetroEd, a career technical education board.
“I’ve learned to ask the right questions and keep my focus on our students.” Biehl continued, “Nothing is more important to our future than the education of our children.”
“This certificate recognizes a demonstrated commitment to learning, leadership and effective governance,” said CSBA President Paul Chapman. “The Masters in Governance program effectively expands the breadth and depth of knowledge graduates are able to bring back to their school boards.”
Since its inception in 1998, more than 1,600 board members and superintendents have participated in CSBA’s highly-acclaimed Masters in Governance program. To receive the certificate, candidates must complete nine seminars for a total of 56 hours of intensive training on the role of the board in setting the direction for student learning, school finance, facilities, human resour-ces and collective bargaining.

EBPA elects new leadership
Evergreen Business & Professional Association closed out the year with their last mixer at Kayaa Spa located at 33 Las Colinas Lane (inside Reformation Studio). Kayaa Spa founder and EBPA member Jaskiran Brar hosted the event.
EBPA welcomes new Officers and Board members for 2009. President- Carla Evans, VP- Eric Ostgarden, Secretary- Filomena Cota, Treasurer- Cirella Regua, Past President- Marie Sinatra, Public Relations- Rod Cryer. Jhoom 2008
More than 450 people attended Jhoom 2008 (pictured above) on Nov. 15 to view the colorful Festival of Lights. The Evergreen Indian Cultural Association (EICA) raised $2,500 for the the San Jose Fire Fighters Burns Foundation. The EICA holds several fund-raisers each year to benefit local nonprofits.
