Don’t stand by, STAND up
Students at Evergreen Valley High School and its chapter of STAND has one goal: To prevent and bring genocide to an end.. On Dec. 3, students of the club will raise money for Genocide Intervention Network’s Civilian Protection Program.
STAND chapters around the nation will be participating in an event called STANDfast from Dec. 3 – Dec. 6. Over the previous three years, students across the nation were able to raise as much as $500,000 by simply giving up one item from their daily lives and donating the money they would have spent on it to the Genocide Intervention Network.
This year the focus is to raise money for civilians in Darfur and Eastern Burma. Local grocers such as Lucky’s and Save Mart on White Road and Aborn Road, and restaurants like Red Robin at Eastridge Mall will also play a role in helping the students of EVHS STAND raise money- in fact Red Robin has agreed to donate 10 percent of its sales from Friday, Dec. 5 to the Genocide Intervention Network.
Students of the club will also be standing outside the two grocers handing out informational brochures and taking donations from understanding citizens on Saturday, Dec. 6.
Come to Red Robin for dinner and donate even a couple of bucks at Lucky’s and Save Mart, and help make our community a permanent anti-genocide constituency. Give up a luxury item, even something as simple as a latté, for one day and use that money to support civilian protection projects.
