San José Healthy Neighborhoods Venture Fund Program
The City of San José is accepting proposals for Cycle 8 of the Healthy Neighborhoods Venture Fund (HNVF)
Program. Applications will be available at the Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department - HNVF Program Office located at 200 East Santa Clara Street, 9th Floor, San José, CA 95113, (408) 793-5530 or at: www.sanjoseca.gov/prns/grants/ hnvf/hnvf.asp.
Completed applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 4 at the HNVF Program Office (location is listed below).
When: Applications will be available beginning Monday, October 16 and are due on Monday, December 4 by 5:00 p.m.

Background: The HNVF Cycle 8 Program will run from July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008. The grant application is open to 501(c)3 tax-exempt organizations, local governments, educational institutions, and for-profits. Available funds will be allocated to projects in the following categories: Tobacco-Free Community/Health - Funds are available for allocation to existing or new anti-tobacco programs serving San José residents; Education/Health - Funds are available for allocation to new education programs or expansion of existing programs serving San José youth; and Seniors Services/Health - Funds are available for allocation to new senior programs or the expansion of existing programs serving San José seniors. By issuing this grant application, the City of San José does not make any assurances that it will enter into any service contracts.
The City of San José estimates that approximately $250 million will be received over the next 25 years from the national settlement with tobacco companies. The San José City Council stipulated that any allocation of these funds should be decided through a competitive process. On September 26, 2006, the City Council approved the allocation plan, timeline, criteria, and funding priorities for the use of these funds. |
