Former Silver Creek High student graduates from Army basic combat training

Army Private Binh N. Nguyen has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

He is the son of Hieu Pham and Thi Nguyen of Everdale Drive, San Jose, Calif. Nguyen is a 2006 graduate of Silver Creek High School, San Jose.


Evergreen Reservist graduates from Army Power-Gener-ation Equipment Repairer AIT course

Army Reserve Pfc. Ernest P. Villescaz has graduated from the Power-Generation Equip-ment Repairer Advanced Individual Training (AIT) course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md.

During AIT, the soldier was trained to perform unit, direct support or general support maintenance functions on power-generation equipment. This included repair and overhauling internal combustion engines, tactical utility, precise power generation sets, and other associated equipment.

Villescaz is the son of Carlos H. and Brenda L. Villescaz of Flinthaven Drive, San Jose, Calif.

Former Mt. Pleasant student graduates from Air Force basic military training

Emanuel A. Magat

Air Force Airman Emanuel A. Magat has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Magat is the son of Thelma Magat of Groesbeck Hill Drive, San Jose, Calif. The airman is a 2003 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, San Jose.
