Local “American Girls” model for charity

Silver Oak Elementary School students Lillian Dennison, Tiffany Anaya, and Isabel Anaya were selected to model in this year’s American Girl Fashion Show, held Nov. 10-11 at the Christ Episcopal Church in Los Altos. The fashion shows are hosted each autumn to benefit the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford.

The theme of this year’s show was “Styles of Yesterday and Today.” The purpose was to demonstrate the lifestyle and character of American girls from the early generations through today. Isabel Anaya modeled a historical outfit from the Civil War era, while Lillian Dennison and Tiffany Anaya donned contemporary fashions. Each girl carried a doll dressed in a matching outfit to complete the ensemble.

Although this was their first time on the catwalk, all three girls were no strangers to the stage. In fact, they will all once again dance in South Bay Dance Center’s production of “The Nutcracker” next month. Nonetheless, Isabel Anaya said first stroll down the runway was “a little bit scary,” as the girls modeled for sold out audiences of women and girls of all ages who were fans of American Girl Dolls.

Despite their initial jitters, the Evergreen girls said they would love to volunteer their time and talent to the fashion show next year. Eight-year old Lillian Dennison put it simply when she said, “I just wanted to help the sick children in the hospital.”

The fashion show ended with the models parading down the runway waving sparkling wands to the crowd in celebration of the spirit of American girls.
