The funds were raised from its constituents during a weeklong fund-raising campaign across its 20 stores in Northern California and from other patrons and promoters.
The generous donation was officially handed over to Red Cross Representative in the presence of all the franchisee owners of Una Mas, who met at a franchise meeting here to mark the culmination of the effort.
Thousands of people across northern California participated in this effort, with the restaurant chain donating generously, and restaurant promoters and other patrons also contributing.
Una Mas promoters Jag Kapoor, Harpreet Chadha, Prashant Parekh, COO Erick Guzman, and marketing director Ram Bangalore were present, while the Red Cross was represented by Kathy Miller, director of development, Santa Clara Valley chapter.
“It is so gratifying to work with such supportive community leaders—Una Mas always comes through for the American Red Cross,” said Kathy Miller, director of development, the Santa Clara Valley chapter of American Red Cross. “This donation will help victims of Hurricane Katrina begin that road to recovery by providing needed food, clothing and other necessities.”
Erick Guzman, COO of Una Mas Restaurants Inc., spoke as well. “We wish to primarily thank the American Red Cross, who worked with us in our fund-raising efforts to help the ravaged victims of Hurricane Katrina. In addition, Una Mas wishes to thank its franchisees, all of which participated in our fundraising campaign, showing great compassion and generosity,” Guzman said at the event. “We are very proud of our joint efforts and feel very fortunate to have been in a position to make this contribution.”
