Silver Oak Elementary School presents ‘Narnia’ Dec. 14 and 15

Silver Oak Elementary School will be presenting the play, “Narnia,” based on the book, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, under the professional direction of California Theatre Center (CTC), a company celebrating its 31st season of theatre entertaining young audiences in the bay area.

This production is funded by the families of Silver Oak Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and Silver Oak Educational Partnership(SOEP), and in addition, is partially sponsored by Mandy McCurdy, realtor with the Kate Davey Team of Silver Creek Valley premier real estate services experts.

Come, support, and enjoy a wondrous night of entertaining from all the children and families of Silver Oak Elementary School in San Jose's Evergreen area.

Performances:
Thursday, Dec 14: Spring Cast – 4:30 p.m. and Winter Cast – 7:00 p.m.
Friday, Dec 15: Winter Cast – 6:00 p.m. and Spring Cast - 8:30 p.m.

Tickets will go on sale to the public beginning Thursday, Nov. 30 at 12:30 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 1 at 2:15 p.m. at Silver Oak Elementary at the flag pole. Sales will continue on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays at 2:15 p.m. until sold out. Cash or checks accepted.

Ticket Pricing: Thursday, Dec. 14, 4:30 p.m. performance: Pavilion $8, Premium $10. All other performances will be: Pavilion $10 and Premium $12.


Fourth annual SCVCC Women’s Club Holiday Market on Nov. 19

The public is invited to the Silver Creek Valley Country Club Women’s Club Fourth
Annual Holiday Market November 19.

Silver Creek Valley Country Club Women’s Club will hold its Fourth Annual Holiday Market, traditionally held each year on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, on November 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the SCVCC Clubhouse, located on 5460 Country Club Parkway, San Jose.

Bring your holiday shopping list and come and meet the many artists featuring a unique selection of handmade goods, holiday gifts, and live music. It’s more than a craft show!

Come and join the Evergreen Community and get a head start on your holiday shopping.
Admission is free, as so is the parking.


Veteran’s Day community event featuring the Village Voices on Nov. 11

The public is invited to honor Veterans on Nov. 11 at the Latter Day Saints Church, located on 4977 San Felipe Rd., at 2:30 p.m. The community event, held each Veteran’s Day, will feature patriotic music from various music groups, including the Village Voices.


San José Healthy Neighborhoods Venture Fund Program
The City of San José is accepting proposals for Cycle 8 of the Healthy Neighborhoods Venture Fund (HNVF) Program. Applications will be available at the Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department - HNVF Program Office located at 200 East Santa Clara Street, 9th Floor, San José, CA  95113, (408) 793-5530 or at: www.sanjoseca.gov/prns/grants/ hnvf/hnvf.asp

Completed applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 4 at the HNVF Program Office (location is listed below).

When:   Applications will be available beginning Monday, October 16 and are due on Monday, December 4 by 5:00 p.m. 

Where:  San José City Hall - Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services - HNVF Program Office, 200 East Santa Clara Street, 9th Floor, San José, CA  95113             

Background: The HNVF Cycle 8 Program will run from July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008. The grant application is open to 501(c)3 tax-exempt organizations, local governments, educational institutions, and for-profits. Available funds will be allocated to projects in the following categories: Tobacco-Free Community/Health - Funds are available for allocation to existing or new anti-tobacco programs serving San José residents; Education/Health - Funds are available for allocation to new education programs or expansion of existing programs serving San José youth; and Seniors Services/Health - Funds are available for allocation to new senior programs or the expansion of existing programs serving San José seniors. By issuing this grant application, the City of San José does not make any assurances that it will enter into any service contracts.

The City of San José estimates that approximately $250 million will be received over the next 25 years from the national settlement with tobacco companies. The San José City Council stipulated that any allocation of these funds should be decided through a competitive process. On September 26, 2006, the City Council approved the allocation plan, timeline, criteria, and funding priorities for the use of these funds.
