Longtime Evergreen resident and ESD Trustee writes in support of Measure I

Editor,
I am writing today in support of Evergreen School District’s Measure I.

As a 48-year resident of Evergreen, and having served on the Evergreen School District Board of Trustees for 37 years, I have seen the District grow and change dramatically. The quality of our school facilities is top notch and recognized as such statewide. The District has used the funds generated from two previous bond measures to do such things as build multipurpose rooms that serve as cafeterias and gathering places for school events; put on new roofs; replace outdated and inefficient lighting with modern, energy efficient lighting systems; install new heating and air conditioning systems; and enhance the safety and aesthetic quality of the school grounds. Having completed these past projects, the District can now do things like making sure all our classrooms have the technology they need to enhance student learning and expand facility space for after-school programs, pre-school classes, and community organizations, such as Little League and Youth Soccer. Our neighborhood schools are the pride of our community! The District has not only made good on all its promises with previous bonds but also has structured the sale and issue of bonds so that the local taxpayers have saved a total of over $6.5 million.

As our community continues to grow and change, I urge you to support our schools with a Yes vote on Measure I. Safe, modern and attractive school facilities are good for our children and good for our neighborhoods. A Yes vote on Measure I will allow our Evergreen teachers to deliver a world-class education in award winning schools.
