EESD overcrowding, San Jose Greenprint to be discussed at Nov. 13 D8CRT meeting

Evergreen Elementary School District overcrowding and an update of the City of San Jose’s Greenprint plan will be the focal points of discussion at the next District 8 Community Round Table meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 7 p.m., at the Evergreen Branch Public Library.

Greenprint 2008 update plan is San Jose’s 20-year strategic plan for parks, recreational facilities and programs. The six key strategies for Greenprint are programs and services, parks and open spaces, recreational facilities, citywide trails, public outreach and resource development.

Since community input for this strategic plan ends in December, the Nov. 13 D8CRT meeting is one of the last public meetings where you can vote for options in the above categories. You can also visit www.sjparks.org/ greenprint to cast your vote. The updated plan will be presented next spring and will be the basis of the recreational input for the city’s General Plan.

Another topic at the Nov. 13 D8CRT meeting will be a proposal presented by the Evergreen Parents Task Force regarding their concern about EESD overcrowding. This group of parents and residents feel the local school district’s current proof of residence policy is not strong enough, resulting in fraudulent attendance and overcrowding in the schools located in the southeastern part of the district.

There will also be an update on the D8CRT officer nominations for the upcoming Dec. 11 officer election. Nominations for officers are open to the membership of the D8CRT. Elected officers are the president, vice president, corresponding secretary, recording secretary and treasurer, as well as five positions of members-at-large. Please submit nominations to: Sherry Gilmore at shppngshrry@comcast.net or Ruben Dominguez at rubenadominguez@ yahoo.com.

D8CRT meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at the Evergreen Branch Public Library, 2635 Aborn Road, San Jose, 95121. Offsite parking is available at Grace Lutheran Church across from the library off of Kettmann Road.
