Evergreen Valley High yearbook receives gold medal from CSPA

After an intensive review and critique by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) in New York, Evergreen Valley High’s 2008 yearbook, Wired, has received a gold medal with an overall score of 951 out of 1000 possible points in aspects of concept, content, coverage, design and photography.

Wired was a reflection on the many wires that gave access to the innovative and cutting-edge technology abounding EVHS. In additions to its literal meaning, Wired also reflected the vitality of connection and interaction among students and faculty.

CSPA is the same organization that awards the Pulitzer Prize for excellence in journalism, literary achievement and musical composition. The yearbook staff – The Eye – was honored to receive its first gold medal and great remarks from the professionals at CSPA. Among the remarks, judges commented that the book embodied a very modern concept and reflected the contemporary design trends of 2008.

From stunning sports pictures to detailed accounts of club events, the yearbook staff worked long hours before school, during school and after school to compile this gold medal book. With the gold medal, Wired is automatically entered as a prospective finalist in the next level of awards.

Wired was the collaborative result of The Eye staff of 2008. The staff included Nicole Nguyen as editor-in-chief, Mrs. Jan Gliozzo as adviser, Eric Lam, Miles Abadilla, Binh Ngo, Jennifer Huynh, Nhat Vo, Danielle Vicencio, Timothy Le, Arun Kastury, Kathrina Deleon, Charis Federe, Connie Lee, Ali Hernandez, Davynna Reyes, Esha Peddireddy, Helen Hong, Helga Afghini, Jansen Abellera, Bohan Lin, Sarah Mira Park, Mitali Parmar, Nelson Gines, Rashida Blade, Samantha Rodriguez, Scottie Nguyen, Stella Tran, Alice Nguyen, Vivian H. Nguyen, Vivian X. Nguyen, Vivian Ngo and Amanda Valenzuela.
