Pet of the Month
Mabel’s patience pays off
 |
| Mabel and her brother Eddie bring joy to the Sohm household. |
Patience has earned Mabel, a 6-year-old female boxer, the October “Pet of the Month” honor. Mabel loves the children of Evergreen’s Sohm family, 10-year-old Nick, 19-year-old Sarah and 20-year-old Melissa.
The girls are away at college, but each day when Nick leaves for school, Mabel sits on his bed and looks out the window, calmly anticipating his return.
In addition to her patience, Mabel is very smart and helpful. Her three-year-old brother Eddie, who is also a boxer, only knows a few key words, whereas Mabel seems to understand everything the Sohm family says.
“The dogs have a basket of toys and balls in every room of the house, and when we tell Eddie to get a toy, he often doesn’t understand,” explains Cristin Sohm. “So Mabel will go get a toy from the basket and drop it in front of Eddie to help him understand. It’s adorable!”
Mabel joined the Sohn family six years ago when they purchased her from a breeder in San Jose. “She certainly adds excitement to our household when we vacuum. She seems to think that it’s completely necessary to fully attack the vacuum at all times,” jokes Sohm.
“Every night, both dogs, Mabel and Eddie, snuggle up with daddy, but in the morning, they are always found asleep directly on mom’s legs,” adds Sohm, noting that each of these pups weigh between 50 to 60 pounds.
“Mabel and Eddie bring joy to our lives,” says Sohm. “Our friends have to endure the dog kisses when they come over, but we adore them and enjoy having them as a part of our family.”
Cristin Sohm will receive a $20 gift certificate from the Evergreen Pet Center located at Silver Creek Marketplace, 1640 E. Capitol Expressway, near Hollywood Video, (408) 274-2555.
