Girls Just Want to Have Fun
By Bea Baechle

It’s not often that you’ll see a bunch of girls sitting on skateboards using a toilet plunger as a makeshift oar in a sea of competition. Yet “Ridiculous Olympics” games like these helped ensure that this year’s opening event would successfully kick off the 2004-05 Girl Scouting Year in Evergreen.

| Evergreen Girl Scouts enjoyed a variety of activities for this year’s opening event. They sang, painted, did arts and crafts and competed in lots of “Ridiculous Olympics” events. A lucky few participated in a pie eating contest. |
About 135 girls and adults from 16 Evergreen troops attended “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” on Sept. 24. In addition to competing in the Ridiculous Olympics, the girls could attend three workshops—Singing, Making Paperballs or Under-the-Sea Painting—create 12 craft activities or participate in a Chocolate Cream Pie Eating Contest sponsored by Bakers Square.
SaveMart provided healthy food choices for snacks and Panda Express provided individually wrapped fortune cookies for the “build your own fortune cookie box” activity.
Girl Scouts of Santa Clara County are currently accepting new and returning Girl Scout membership applications. Call the Girl Scout Office at (408) 287-4170 and your name will be forwarded to the troop development team in Evergreen.
