The Silver Creek Valley Country Club Women’s Club welcomed new members and introduced the 2004-05 board at the clubhouse on Wednesday, Sept. 22. The evening started with an informal social hour followed by a scrumptious dinner of chicken cordon bleu, spinach salad with pear slices and tiramisu for dessert.

Gwen Bindon, outgoing president, explained the history and purpose of the club. The Women’s Club, open to all women residents of the SCVCC development, is a neighborhood group independent of country club membership.

The mission of the club is to promote friendship among members of the community. The intent of the group is to be inclusive. The social focus of the Women’s Club encourages fun and enjoying various activities together.

Monthly activities include luncheon programs, birthday tea celebrations, a monthly matinee movie, couples dinners and day trips to explore and enjoy the community. Highlights of the year include the annual fashion show and holiday market.

In keeping with the club’s theme for the past year of “planting friendships”, Bindon thanked the members of last year’s board and presented each woman with a lovely cyclamen plant.

She then introduced each new board member by reciting a unique quote on friendship and presenting them with a plant of chrysanthemums.

The new board members include Diane Kay, president; Gwen Bindon, secretary; Jaji Hagelgans, treasurer; Eve Voydat, program director; Margaret Trautmann and Pat Duplan, activities coordinators; Doris Davis and Bonnie Griffith, birthday tea coordinators; Noreen Diodati, membership; Heidi Bonneau, couples dinners coordinator; Johnette Browning and Laura Tucci, special events; Barbara Sick, publicity coordinator; Hema Master, bridge coordinator; Marge de Carbonel, movie maven; and Sharon Zeman, Valleyhoo bulletin editor.

Bindon officially turned over the reigns to Diane Kay, who presented Gwen with a huge basket of plants and garden items in gratitude for her service as president.

Diane then introduced the evening’s entertainment. Wally Trindade, the South Bay’s Frank Sinatra, serenaded the women with romantic, popular, jazz and swing standards from the 40’s and 50’s. Alfie Dreifuss, the Silicon Valley’s premier pianist and musical director at the Fairmont since 1987, accompanied him.

With toes tapping and hands clapping in appreciation of this musical duo, the entire evening was deemed a huge success.

About Diane Kay
“The Women’s Club will continue with the theme of ‘Planting Friendships,’ but I am really trying to stress that we are a group that has FUN!” said Kay. “I think that when one is having fun, it is contagious and that attracts others to join in.”

The Kay’s were the eighth family to move into Silver Creek Valley Country Club in November 1992. She worked as registrar for the Eastside Union High School District for 12 years and now substitutes at the district office. She is also the clerk of the Christian Science Church in Willow Glen, and in her spare time, likes to garden and stamp her own greeting cards. She’s also interested in interior design.

Her children, David and Karol, are both married, and Kay has one grandson, Jonah, and one grandbaby on the way. Her husband Steve is a principal at Peterson Middle School in Sunnyvale. Although David works for Shea Homes, her daughter, son-in-law and daughter-in-law are teachers.

”I think that my clerk job, my involvement in the Women’s Club, my children and my work at the school district office all point to my commitment to helping others and serving the community,” added Kay.

Women residents of Silver Creek Valley Country Club interested in joining this fun group should contact Diane Kay, (408) 274-1909 or Noreen Diodati (408) 223-9868.
