San Jose Youth Ballet to present “The Nutcracker”

Nutcracker season is just around the corner, and rehearsals are already underway at Dance Theater International, home of the San Jose Youth Ballet.

In DTI’s 2004 production of “The Nutcracker,” Lindsey Sexton as Clara receives the infamous nutcracker from Travis Walker as Drosselmeyer while Donald Barnett as the butler and Bill Friend as Mr. Stahlbaum look on.

Open auditions were held at the beginning of September, with much of the cast coming from the gifted youngsters and parents from DTI, along with students from Morgan Hill Dance, Capitol Dance and International Ballet, to name a few.

Guest stars will also perform some of the lead roles to bring this magical production to life. Gorgeous costumes and amazing sets are being prepared ready for San Jose Youth Ballet’s third season.

The performances will be held at the Mexican Heritage Theater, 1700 Alum Rock Ave., San Jose, on Saturday, Dec. 17, 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 18, 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

You can also buy tickets for the Sugar Plum Party, held after every performance, to enjoy light refreshments on stage, mingle and take photos with members of the cast.
