Evergreen Area Police report

9/26-30
Safe Passage Program

During a weeklong Safe Passage Program campaign, a collaborative effort involving dayshift patrol teams and the Traffic Enforcement Unit, 306 officers responded to conduct traffic enforcement near 179 schools throughout the city. Their school-related actions resulted in 1,032 citations being issued, 308 warnings given, 19 vehicles impounded and 13 drivers arrested. In addition, three radar display trailers belonging to the city’s Department of Transportation and two radar display trailers assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Unit were deployed at 25 schools throughout the city. This added an educational component to the department’s enforcement campaign by reminding motorists of the 25 mph speed-limit requirements in school zones. The program will return in January.

Suspicious Vehicle

Stoneyford Court, Bellaire Estates/Hillstone
At approximately 11:45 p.m., a resident of this street looked out the window and noticed a suspicious white car parked in front of their home, with the driver looking at the mailbox. Several other people emerged from a black truck parked at the end of the cul de sac, and one of them, a woman carried a black trash bag, began shuffling through the garbage bins.

When the resident came outside to investigate, the strangers all drove away in the black truck, leaving the white car. When the police arrived, they had the white car towed. It was illegally registered. When the “owner” of the car came to claim the truck, he said he was jogging in the neighborhood. This area has had numerous identity theft and mail fraud issues to be aware of in the past two years, including stolen credit card and Social Security information, the former used to charge items and the latter to obtain employment.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Near Oldwood Court and Simberlan Drive
The suspect and victim met during the football game at Evergreen Valley High School. Both parties agreed to go off campus to fight. During the fight, more than one suspect jumped in and assaulted the victim. The police were summoned to the scene and broke up the fight. All of the involved parties were uncooperative during the initial investigation. The victim sustained non-life threatening injury to the head and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The suspects were cited and released from the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

Reckless Driving/Sideshow

Capitol Expressway/Tully Road
San Jose police officers conducted reckless driving enforcement at In-N-Out Burger. Officers observed a “sideshow” taking place. A total of five subjects were arrested and cited for reckless driving and their vehicles were impounded.

Editor’s Note: Although most of the crimes posted here are directly derived from the San Jose Police Department, because of the large volume of calls received, the SJPD reports to the media just a fraction of the actual crimes that occur. If you would like to ensure the Evergreen Times prints a crime to alert your neighbors to a possible trend, e-mail: bea@timesmediainc.com a very brief description of the crime, the date it occurred, the street name and block number, and a police report number so that we can verify the validity of the incident.
