County to Host Conference on Domestic Violence

Santa Clara County will host the 13th Annual Santa Clara County Domestic Violence Conference on Friday, October 13, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara, located at 5101 Great America Parkway, in Santa Clara.

Speakers include County of Santa Clara Supervisor Blanca Alvarado, Congresswomen Sally Lieber and Rebecca Cohn, Attorney General Bill Lockyer and Dr. Leonard Shlain, Chairman of Laparoscopic Surgery at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.

The Domestic Violence Conference, hosted by the County of Santa Clara and its Domestic Violence Council and the City of San Jose, will bring people together to hear experts in the field. Participants will learn about teen dating and violence, how to keep families safe while holding batterers accountable, mental health issues and cross-cultural intervention, among others issues.

California Attorney General Bill Lockyer will speak about his Task Force on Local Criminal Justice Response to Domestic Violence, which studied the effectiveness of local criminal justice agencies in responding to and handling domestic violence issues.

Cadwallader Elementary School Annual Harvest Festival Oct. 27

The public is invited to come along and enjoy the festivities at Cadwallader Elementary School’s Annual Harvest Festival, which will be held on Oct. 27 from 4-9 p.m. on the school grounds. Cadwallader Elementary School is located at 3799 Cadwallader Ave., San Jose.

The festival will feature live music, a barbecue, standards-based games and prizes.


Fright Fest at Alum Rock Youth Center

Fright Fest, the 3rd Alum Rock Youth Center Haunted House Festival will offer entertainment for young children and adults. The main attraction is the Haunted House and other activities include a costume contest, parade, music, food, carnival games and prizes.

The event will be held Friday, October 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Alum Rock Youth Center, located at 137 North White Road, San José.

There is a $5 admission, with all proceeds to benefit programming for the Alum Rock Youth Center. All ages are welcome.


EVHS Athletic Booster Club 4th Annual Holiday Craft Faire Nov. 18 and 19

The Evergreen Valley High School Athletic Booster Club will hold its' fourth Annual Holiday Craft Faire Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the school. There will be free admission and parking for all interested parties.

This year's event will feature 57 craft booths, handmade items, hourly raffle drawings, food concessions and fabulous prizes, such as spa packages, dinner for two, handcrafted gifts, and more. In addition, there will also be a Children's Arts & Craft Center.
