With five successful seasons completed, Symphony Silicon Valley featured a world premiere to open its sixth season on Sept. 29.
The evening began with a gala dinner at the Arcadia restaurant in the San Jose Marriott. The black tie affair brought out fans of classical music including Woody Guthrie’s sister, Nora, and other family members, Composer David Amram, major donors, its board of trustees, advisory board, Mayor Chuck Reed and his wife, Paula, Council Member Forrest Williams and his wife. The attendees enjoyed the camaraderie, food, and wine before walking across the street to The California Theater.
Conductor Paul Polvinik led the orchestra in Beethoven’s 6th Symphony and Jancek’s Sinfonetta and the world premiere of David Amram’s Variations on a Song by Woody Guthrie. The theme of This Land is Your Land recurred through the sounds of the cultures Woody found in America.
Symphony Silicon Valley, successor to the defunct San Jose Symphony, provides outstanding performances for its audiences. The orchestra is operating in the black with a strong management team and talented musicians.
