The Republican Club at the Villages met for its monthly business meeting on the morning of Sept. 24 at the Foothill Center. The feature of the day was an excellent presentation about illegal immigration issues in Santa Clara County given by Ms. Carol Joyal. Joyal is the Chair of the Immigration Reform Network of Silicon Valley; and Member of the National Advisory Board, Federation for American Immigration Reform, Washington, D.C.
Through a series of topics concerning lawsuits brought by the Immigration Reform Network, Joyal exposed our local law enforcement authorities for their reluctance to enforce the laws of the Land. She referred, specifically, to the Chief of Police of San Jose, the Sheriff of Santa Clara County and our current City Council. They are looking the “other way” when it comes to reporting illegal immigrant lawbreakers to the Immigration authorities.
Prior to Joyal’s talk, Club member Lu Ryden reported on “What Ails Us” regarding legislation and issues in California and Congress, urging members to express their opinions to our local politicians. Post cards were distributed to all attendees as well as the pertinent mailing addresses, so that we all could “Speak our minds.”
