Meet and greet the candidates at the October D8CRT meeting

Come and meet the candidates for the East Side Union High School District, Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and Open Space Authority at the October 14 D8CRT general meeting. Candidates from all three political races will be on hand to answer questions and hear your concerns. The candidates will be available to talk with you from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Evergreen Branch Library.

If you want to meet and greet the candidates for the District 8 City Council race, the D8CRT will be having a special candidates’ forum exclusively for the D8 council candidates on October 16. This forum will be held from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Evergreen Branch Library.

After the “meet and greet” section of the upcoming October 14 regular D8CRT meeting, the community will have the chance to participate in a discussion with City officials concerning traffic calming in Evergreen. Jim Bittner, representative from the Department of Transportation, will make a presentation on traffic calming measures in Evergreen, and the City would like your comments concerning how to improve the flow of cars in our community.

Other featured topics for the next D8CRT meeting will include a presentation from City officials concerning the future of Lake Cunningham Park. Simeon Mercado, from the Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department, will discuss the Lake Cunningham Master Plan. Do you have any ideas regarding how to improve this park? If so, then the City would like to hear your comments.

Additionally, a representative from the Evergreen Elementary School District will be on hand at the October 14 meeting to provide an update on the proposed boundary realignment for the district. In other EESD-related news, the D8CRT recently endorsed Measure T, a proposed parcel tax that will be placed on the November general election ballot. If it passes, the parcel tax will be $90 per parcel of taxable real property beginning in fiscal year 2008-2009 for a period of five years. The money will be used to fund services including enhancing match and science instruction, restoring music and arts programs, maintaining safe school campuses, providing individual attention from teachers and maintaining kindergarten through third grade class size reduction programs.

In other District 8 news, the Day in the Park will be held on October 11. The D8CRT encourages all community members to attend this fun event held annually at Lake Cunningham Park. Come and visit the D8CRT booth at the Day in the Park.

The D8CRT currently is seeking officer candidates for the next year. D8CRT elections will be held in December, and nominations are needed by November 6.

Starting in November, the regular D8CRT meeting will move to the 1st Thursday of the month at the same time of 7:00-9:00 p.m. The November meeting will be held on November 6, and the meeting will feature an election recap.

Everyone who lives or works in District 8 is invited to join the D8CRT, which focuses on issues of interest to the community. The next District 8 Community Round Table meeting will be held on October 14 at the Evergreen Branch Library from 7:00-9:00 p.m. For more details on the D8CRT, visit www.d8crt.org.
