Shannon Hackley speaks to SIRS Branch 114 about Tuberous Sclerosis Complex
Shannon Hackley (next column, top) spoke to Branch 114 SIRS members regarding Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) at their monthly luncheon on Sept. 4 at the Clubhouse at the Villages.
TSC is a genetic disorder that causes tumor growth in vital organs such as the brain, heart, kidney, lungs, eyes, and skin. More people suffer from TSC than from Cystic Fibrosis or ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Currently, there is no cure for TSC, but ongoing research has yielded promising results and with more funding for research, the future holds much hope. The Fourth Annual Walk-A-Thon to raise funds to fight the disease is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 13, in Vacaville, California. Information about this event, fundraising, and the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance is available by contacting Shannon Hackley at shannon@hackley.net and/or Ed Flory at (408) 223-8469.
