Evergreen Valley Troop 296 Hits Desolation Wilderness for Its Annual Backpack Trip
 |
Desolation Wilderness |
This year, Boy Scouts of America Troop 296 continued its tradition of annual backpack trips, hitting the trails of Desolation Wilderness located in the Sierra Nevada Moun-tains near Lake Tahoe. The adventure began with a boat taxi ride across Echo Lakes. The hike went about 5 miles total (a climb of over 1,000 feet in elevation) in about 3.5 hours. The first stop was to camp at Ropi Lake. The next morning the troop hiked to Lake of the Woods where the day was spent swimming, rock free-climbing and fishing. The following day they hiked out of Desolation Wilderness back to Echo Lakes.
