Street Talk
By Jeffrey Lo
Times Intern The East Side Union High School District recently abandoned its quest for “common dress” and decided to focus on better enforcing a district-wide dress code, including the use of ID badges on all high school campuses. Do you think ID badges are a good idea? Why or Why not?
Asked at Evergreen Valley High School
Yes, I think they are a good idea. It’s definitely a better alternative than common dress and they keep you safe.

I think wearing our ID badges is a strict measure, but it’s better than common dress.

ID cards aren’t so bad, pretty soon it’ll be a fashion statement.
Leilani Quiogue
11th Grade
I think that ID badges are a good idea because it makes me feel safe on campus. I know that there are no strangers lurking around.

The ID badges are a good solution to our campus issues. I would rather enforce an ID badge rule than a common dress requirement.

I think that school ID cards really beat out having to wear school uniforms, or having school common dress. It’s the best way to keep the student’s freedom of dress and to help eliminate any bad guys on the campus.

It’s way better than common dress, and I understand why they [ID badges] took the place of common dress, but remembering to bring them is a hassle. People forget things all the time, and if we don’t have them, we could get detention.

If someone passes by me and I see that they don’t have their ID badge on, I’ll get their name and ID number and put them in the database and they get a warning. After they have been warned, we will assign detentions. People just seem to pass by me less now!
