Illegal Firearms / Narcotics Possession / Grand Theft

1500 block of Flannigan
Violent Crimes Enforcement Team (VCET) officers conducted follow-up in the area of Flannigan / Alvin because of increased gang activity. VCET officers stopped five suspected gang members. One suspect was arrested for narcotics possession and grand theft, the other was arrested for narcotics possession and the third suspect was an ex-felon and in possession of a rifle and ammunition. The other two subjects were validated and released.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

The Community Services Division participated in the Canyon Creek Park groundbreaking ceremony at Larkspur Canyon Road and Eagle Park Court in Evergreen. Police Chief Rob Davis, Councilmember David Cortese and the Horse Mounted Unit were present. The Community Services Division fingerprinted approximately 40 children.

Cultural Event

Quimby/Murillo
The new Sikh Temple opened. Several thousand people attended the event, which included a parade from the old temple at Quimby/White to the new temple, live music, tours and appearances by city dignitaries. There were some minor noise and parking issues, but overall it was a successful opening and event.

Officer Involved Accident

King/Flanigan
A sergeant was involved in a very minor vehicle accident with a citizen’s vehicle. No one was injured and the patrol vehicle remained in service.

Assault With a Deadly Weapon

Quimby Road/White Road
A large fight between 10 males occurred in the Carl’s Jr. parking lot. One male was stabbed in the back with a knife, and another man was struck with an unknown object. Both victims’ were treated at Regional Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. The suspects are unknown and remain at large.

Burglary

2210 Tully Road
Two suspects entered the Macy’s store at Eastridge Mall. Suspect #1 was a white male adult, 6’2”-6’3”, 275 pounds, wearing a dark baseball cap and a yellow shirt, unknown colored pants and thin beard. Suspect #2 was a white female adult, 5’2”-5’3”, 95 pounds, wearing a yellow baseball cap, yellow sleeveless shirt and unknown color pants. The suspects asked to see the one-carat diamond earrings. They pulled off a bait-and-switch routine on the clerk and left the store with a $15,000 pair of solitaire diamond earrings.

Fatal Hit and Run

Southbound Capitol Expressway
Preliminary investigation indicates that a Hispanic male adult was standing in the roadway of Capitol Expressway, south of Quimby Road, when a passing motorist in the number-one lane struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased by the San Jose Fire Department at the scene. The suspect driver fled, abandoned his vehicle approximately a half-mile away. Patrol units as well as the MERGE 8100 team assisted and conducted a surveillance of the suspect’s residence and later apprehended him as he left the residence. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Selective Enforcement

Delta Road
In response to a community meeting at Evergreen Elementary School, where residents complained about chronic speeding, an officer worked radar enforcement along Delta Road. Five citations were issued and approximately 30 warnings were given for speed violations.

Fatal Hit and Run

Tully/Kenesta
The 68-year-old victim was struck by a vehicle on Tully Road as she crossed outside of a crosswalk. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Follow-up to Gang Fight

Overfelt High School
At 3 p.m., three Norteno gang members beat up a suspected Sureno gang member. No one was arrested. The next day, Overfelt High School officials and a SJPD officer identified the suspects. One suspect was located at the school and cited. The officer obtained the help of Sgt. Newman’s VCET team and arrested the other two suspects at a residence.

Mountain Lion Sighting

Terra Nova Lane
Several citizens reported seeing a mountain lion in the back yard of a residence. Officers searched the area, but the lion was not located. Animal Control, Fish and Game were notified.

Fire Aid

Keaton Loop/San Felipe
A sergeant saw a structure fire on Keaton Loop near San Felipe. Officers provided traffic control and scene security. Arson investigators believe the fire started as a result of sparks from an arc welder. One firefighter was transported to the Emergency Room with chest pains. PG&E was called to handle live down-ed wires. The house had been put up for sale one day earlier.

Possible Kidnapping

Silver Creek/Lexann
Someone reported a possible kidnapping at Orchard Supply Hardware when he saw a 5-year-old male “forced” into a van. Approximately 25-30 units responded. Working with Anaheim Police, a local address was found and the child was located unharmed. It was determined not to be a kidnapping, just an upset child.

Prowling/Peeping Tom

Sturla/Everdale
An officer became involved in a brief vehicle pursuit of a suspect believed to be involved in a prior prowling / Peeping Tom incident. The suspect stopped his car and fled on foot, but was apprehended by the officer and responding officers. The suspect had outstanding warrants and evidence was found possibly linking him to the prowling incident.

Discharge of Weapon at Dog

1800 block of Daniel Maloney
A (pit-bull mix) dog attacked officers attempting to locate a domestic violence assault and battery suspect. An officer fired one shot, hitting the dog in the side. The dog was transported by Animal Control and treated. No officers were injured, and the one round was recovered. The dog is expected to recover fully.

Burglary

2400 block of Alvin Avenue
A burglary occurred on the above street. The unknown suspects entered a jewelry store through a locked rear door. The suspects took an unknown amount of jewelry and fled. There are no suspect descriptions.

Burglary

2500 block of South King Road
The previous night Kim & Son Jewelry Store was burglarized. The suspects entered through the roof and while attempting to saw through the safe, a fire started. The suspects fled and are outstanding.

Brandishing a Weapon

Quimby/Tully Roads
A male brandishing a handgun was walking near Eastridge. Officers responded to the area of K.R. Smith Elementary School to investigate. An officer spotted a possible suspect at the intersection of Quimby Road and Tully Road. Officers initiated a pedestrian stop on Quimby Road, south of Tully Road, and the suspect was found to be in possession of a BB/Pellet pistol and a usable amount of methamphetamine. The suspect was arrested and booked into County Jail.
