Vietnamese-Americans assist American Red Cross relief efforts to aid Hurricane Katrina victims
Vietnamese-Americans in Silicon Valley joined in the national effort to assist the victims of the recent Hurricane Katrina by hosting a fundraising event at the Capital Club Athletic on Friday, Sept. 9.
Representatives from American Red Cross, Santa Clara Valley Chapter were on hand to accept donations and a spectacular entertainment program was scheduled for the attendees until 1 a.m.
Thousands of Vietnamese-Americans concentrated in New Orleans, Louisiana and Biloxi, Miss. have lost their homes and livelihood to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
“This is an incredible tragedy for our country,” said Dang Pham, Board Member of American Red Cross, Santa Clara Valley Chapter.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with our brothers and sisters. We will do our part in this national effort to help the victims who have suffered so greatly. While we are saddened by this catastrophe, it also shows our humanity, love, and compassion for one another,” Pham added.
A partial list of participating organizations, companies, and individuals include: United Vietnamese Americans (UVA,) Viet Heritage Society (VHS,) Vietnamese American Real Estate Professional Association (VAREPA,) Viet-Americans Cultural Foundation (Viet-ACF,) Bay Area Viet Social (BAVS,) United of Vietnamese Student Association (UVSA,) International Children Assistance Network (ICAN,) Miss Viet Nam of Northern California & Court, Miss Viet Nam of Southern California, San Jose Heart Institute, Innovia Estates & Mortgage Corp., Network PCB, Think Viet, Lido Night Club, American City Loan, Aidan West Financial, Beyond Fun and many other friends.
