Drive-by Mail Theft
3000 block of Delta Road
At about 3 p.m., an Evergreen resident witnessed a mail theft from one of his bedroom windows. While on the phone, he noticed a newer model silver VW Jetta drive up to his mailbox, and a man on the passenger side open it up. The resident ran out to try and get a license plate number, but the car had left the scene. When he checked his mailbox, he found that they had taken his outgoing credit card payment and replaced it with a grocery store coupon book—timing the theft just before the mail carrier arrived. The resident immediately canceled his credit card and filed a mail fraud report with the federal government. No further leads have been uncovered.

Editor’s Note: Although most of the crimes posted here are directly derived from the San Jose Police Department, because of the large volume of calls received, the SJPD reports to the media just a fraction of the actual crimes that occur. If you would like to ensure the Evergreen Times prints a crime to alert your neighbors to a possible trend, e-mail: bea@timesmediainc.com a very brief description of the crime, the date it occurred, the street name and block number, and a police report number so that we can verify the validity of the incident.
