Three of the motorcyclists stopped for officers as the fourth driver sped off, eastbound on Story Road. Officers remained with the three riders who stopped and did not pursue the fourth motorcycle. Within minutes, officers were advised of a traffic collision at Story/Lyndale involving a vehicle and a motorcycle. On arrival, officers discovered the body of the victim lying in the roadway.
Preliminary investigation and witness statements indicate that the victim was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when he ran the red light at Lyndale and struck a car driven by a 40-year-old female and carrying her 16-year-old and 8-year-old children. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he later died on Sept. 1 at approximately 3 a.m. of internal injuries sustained in the earlier collision.
