King Library marks five years of success

‘5 on Fourth’ kick-off event marks anniversary of unique partnership

The groundbreaking and award-winning Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library celebrates its fifth anniversary with a month full of events. The kick-off features a full day of multicultural performances, exhibits, tours, a video game tournament for young adults, and other family-oriented activities.

Opening ceremony begins Sept 6 at 11 a.m. on Caret Plaza (campus entrance). Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library is located at 150 E. San Fernando St. (at S. Fourth St.), San Jose.

Speakers will include Sam Liccardo, District 3 Councilmember, City of San Jose; Carmen Sigler, Provost, San Jose State University; Harry Mavrogenes, Executive Director, San Jose Redevelopment Agency; Ruth Kifer, Dean, San Jose State University Library; and Jane Light, Director, San Jose Public Library

Since August 2003, the successful collaboration between the City of San Jose and San Jose State University has provided a collection of more than a million books, periodicals, CDs, DVDs, computers and other resources in a visually stunning, eight-story facility designed for the joint use of public and academic customers. King Library has served a dual role as the university library and the main library for the burgeoning branch network of the San Jose Public Library system, allowing materials and electronic resources from both university and public collections to be shared freely.
