The Evergreen Times asked people at Cosentinos on Silver Creek Valley Road, “What do you think is the most important issue in the upcoming presidential campaign?”

Here’s how they replied.

The economy. I work for Windemere Realty, and I have friends in the tech industry. So many people are out of work, and we haven’t recovered yet from the recession. It also affects my husband, who is a pilot [with a major airline]. People aren’t flying for business or for fun. The economy is affecting everyone.

The environment, because to me, it’s a much larger issue than social, political and religious issues. It has the potential to impact all the life on earth. The long-term reality of our declining environment is a more serious issue than anything else on the agenda.

There are so many things; it’s hard to choose one. The issues include the war [in Iraq], health care, social security, embryonic stem cell research, the economy and the future for our families and our children. They all are important.

There’s a whole host of issues, but I think the top one is national security. It’s the one thing that can affect our daily lives in the most significant ways, including our economy. This [tension] affects our everyday life. As to our physical security, I don’t want to see anything more happen than already has.

For us, family is the most important issue—anything pertaining to family.

To me the most important issue is the war in Iraq, and whether we really needed to be there in the first place. I’m not sure what the right answer to that one is. I fear Al Qaeda and Afghanistan. I think we need to be aware of the terrorists and try to keep them out of our country. We need tighter controls and need to make sure they don’t get back into the country [to do more damage]. I’m from New York, and whenever I think about the twin towers, I can’t imagine the fear those people had. There were so many losses for no reason.
