Piece together clues in Grandma’s quilt at “History Mystery”
Sunday, Aug. 21: Free family day at History Park
Solve a mystery from the past at History San Jose’s Family Days at History Park on Sunday, Aug. 21, from noon to 5 p.m.
The focal point of the mystery is the story of a Portuguese grandma’s life. Children will search for clues by finding pieces of Grandma’s quilt in the historic buildings in History Park. The mystery will be revealed to participants once all the pieces of Grandma’s quilt have been found.
“This year History Mystery provides a way to learn about the history of the valley through stories of its people,” said Director of Education, Marilyn Guida. “This is an opportunity to add one more fun family activity day just before school starts.”
In conjunction with the Portuguese Heritage Society, the Chinese Historical and Cultural Project and the Santa Clara Valley Quilt Association, History San Jose will provide an entertaining way to learn about the history of the valley.
Quilt squares illustrating a sailing ship, a wedding, a vegetable garden, a schoolhouse, and a Chinese fan represent events from Grandma’s life.
Activities at History San Jose Family Day activities are designed specifically for families with children up to the age of 10. All age groups will appreciate a glimpse of the heritage and cultural life that was the foundation for Silicon Valley.
The Museum Store will be featuring a sidewalk sale with great bargains on merchandise produced in San Jose and Santa Clara Valley.
History San Jose’s last free Family Day—Antique Autos in the Park—will be held on Sunday, Sept. 11, from noon to 5 p.m. Ride a trolley, watch antique gas engines at work and see vintage cars, bicycles and tractors during this festival of transportation.
For more information about Family Days, contact (408) 918-1052 or go to www.historysanjose.org. History Park is located in Kelley Park, 1650 Senter Road, San Jose. Admission is free.
