16th Annual San Jose Jazz Festival. This year’s Opening Night Gala & Concert Fundraiser will be held on August 11 at the California Theatre. The Gala begins at 5:30 p.m. Concert to follow at 8 p.m. The Opening Night Gala & Concert Fundraiser helps support the San Jose Jazz’s Society’s year-round education and performance programming. Bin Huang in Concert at the California Theatre – one night only, from 8 – 10:30 p.m. This concert is a commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. It is primarily a classical music concert, featuring Bin Huang, the first prize winner of the 41st Paganini International Violin Competition. The concert repertoire comprises Jewish music and Chinese music during World War II, Paganini Caprices and Beethoven’s Sonata for violin and piano. Children’s Musical Theater of San Jose presents “Sleeping Beauty” at the Montgomery Theater. CMT’s youngest performers cast a charm on the audience with a favorite childhood fairytale. This version, commissioned by Prince Street players, is filled with fairies, a funny villainess named Trollarina and few more magical spells than usual. Sleeping Beauty will feature beautiful sets and costumes and a large cast of 6- to 9- year olds, including many making their stage debut as CMT performers. The Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens are collaborating with History San Jose, the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum & Planetarium, San Jose Museum of Art, Don Edward’s San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge, Tech Museum and the Winchester Mystery House to present a full week of unique educational experiences. San Jose Safari Summer Day Camp is designed for children ages 7 – 10 years. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Starting point is the Guadalupe Gardens Visitor Center, in San Jose.
