San José Chamber Orchestra presents “Opera!” at Le Petit Trianon, 72 N. 5th Street, San Jose at 7 p.m. This production starring Christopher Bengochea, is conducted by Barbara Day-Turner and features Layna Chianakas, Malcolm MacKenzie and Rachelle Perry-Ward. Target presents Symphony Silicon Valley in a free family concert. Discovery Meadow Symphony Silicon Valley will perform the best loved music of musical theater, ballet, opera and symphony in a 3 p.m. al fresco concert at Discovery Meadow, next to Children’s Discovery Museum, located at West San Carlos and Woz Way, San Jose. The antique jewels of the San Jose Fire Museum are on exhibit at the new Club Auto Sport showroom. Event dates are July 2 through Aug. 29, Wednesday through Friday, from noon to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays: 7/12, 7/25, 8/9 & 8/23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free. Club Auto Sport is the area’s premier attraction for auto enthusiasts and collectors, located at 521 Charcot Ave., San Jose. Free Ice Cream! Want to do something different this summer to help your community and get a free ice cream as a reward? The Heritage Rose Garden needs volunteers to snip all the dead roses in order to promote more bloom. Help us out on from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., with a sweet payoff at the end. No experience necessary. Volunteer experts will show you how. Bring your own clippers, or borrow one from the staff. It will be an enjoyable and rewarding way to spend a summer evening. The San Jose Heritage Rose Garden is located on Taylor Street, at Spring Street, just east of Coleman Avenue. “Embroidered Lace and Lacy Embroidery”, a new exhibit for the Sunnyvale Lace Museum will include handstitched items from the turn of the century decorated with various embroidery stitches. Some of these items include scarves, gloves, dresses, blouses, and other items of apparel. The museum gift shop also offers heirloom quality lace products and a full line of lacemaking items. The Lace Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located at 552 South Murphy Avenue in Sunnyvale, with free parking.

Come out and join the Sons of Sicily for their 4th annual S.O.S. Golf Festa-Tournament: “Golfing Sicilian Style”! This will take place at the Villages Golf Course with reception awards and banquet to follow. Recipients of the Sons of Sicily’s 2008 scholarship awards will be presented along with great food, a fabulous raffle and silent auction. The Evergreen Chapter of Society Dog announces weekly walks: These free walks happen every Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. We will do a different walk each week, so check the Society Dog website for weekly details.
