NEWS BRIEFS

Bottle your own red wine!

Guglielmo Winery presents Cork Equity Day Aug. 6

Don’t miss the ninth Cork Equity Day at Guglielmo Winery on Aug. 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Over the last eight quarterly events, the winery’s very well received “Bottle Your Own Red Wine” series has attracted nearly 3,000 people looking for a good wine and a good time.

The beautiful grounds of Guglielmo Winery make you feel like you’ve just escaped to Italy for a day.

At the last Cork Equity event in May, the winery served hungry bottlers more than 100 pounds of freshly grilled Italian sausages and salami as well as an assortment of breads and cheeses.

Most find these goodies make a fine accompaniment to samples of wine Guglielmo has available for bottling. Bring your own clean empty bottles or buy some from the winery. This is a “don’t miss” event!

Sneak preview weekends
On July 23 – 24 and July 30 – 31 you’ll have an opportunity to get a sneak preview taste of the newest Cavalcade Cellar Red wine. Just drop by the tasting room between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. and ask for a sample.

If you are unable to attend the ninth Cork Equity event on Aug. 6, you may place a pre-paid order any time up to the day before the event and the winery will fill your bottles. You can pick up your wine at your convenience after the event.

Guglielmo Winery is located at 1480 E. Main Ave., Morgan Hill, Calif. 95037. For more information, call (408) 779-2145.

Grace Lutheran Church assembles team

Evergreen’s first Relay For Life coming Aug. 13-14

Grace Lutheran Church invites anyone interested in participating in the American Cancer Society’s signature Relay For Life event in Evergreen to join their team. The relay will take place on Aug. 13 –14.

The first local Relay For Life will be held at Evergreen Valley High School, 3300 Quimby Road. Relay For Life is a volunteer-organized event designed to empower communities to take up the fight against a disease that has touched so many. The 24-hour walks are conducted all over the country at different times.

Last year, Relay For Life raised $2.9 million in the Silicon Valley/Central Coast Region, $23 million in California and more than $300 million nationally.

Grace Lutheran Church is located at 2650 Aborn Road at Kettmann Avenue, across from the Evergreen Branch Library under construction. To join the team, call Grace Lutheran Church at (408) 274-1200.

If you’d like to create your own team, contact the American Cancer Society’s local Special Events Manager, Trenton Turner, by phone at (408) 688-0108 or e-mail at trenton.turner@cancer.org.

Note: A Rib & Chili Cook-off originally scheduled at Grace Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 30, has been cancelled indefinitely.
