San Jose Stage Company presents “Idols of The King” at the California Theater, 345 South First Street, San Jose. Scott Bruce is Elvis Presley circa 1956 in this musical tribute to the king of rock and roll. The “King” will shake, rattle, and roll again in this rockin’ new musical, performing hits like “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Jailhouse Rock” and “I Can’t Stop Loving You.” To prove their burning love for their idol, his diehard fans put on their blue suede shoes and head to Vegas for a concert. 17th Annual Miller Music in the Park Concert Series. Performances are every Thursday evening from 5:30-9 p.m. at the Plaza de Cesar Chavez, Market Street near San Fernando Street in downtown San Jose. MEETINGS
Ongoing:

The Billy De Frank Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center, 938 The Alameda in San Jose, hosts a weekly “Coming Out Group,” which offers a safe space to explore different subjects. Topics include how to come out to yourself, and how to comfortably live and work as a gay or lesbian in the larger community. All groups are run by trained facilitators in a closed door meeting room. Oakridge Century Theatres in association with Las Madres Neighborhood Playgroups presents CineMamas! A morning out to the movies for moms and their little ones. This group meets every Tuesday at 10 a.m., There are three showings to choose from, baby-safe sound levels, cheerios at the concession stand and a relaxing atmosphere with other moms who understand kids are kids! Children’s Musical Theater’s Rising Stars report for duty at the Montgomery Theater in the 1960 Broadway classic musical comedy, “Bye Bye Birdie”. While Conrad Birdie, a teen heartthrob reminiscent of Elvis Presley, prepares to join the service, his agent stages the PR stunt of the year. Once lucky fan will win a good-bye kiss from Birdie on the nationally televised Ed Sullivan show. But kiss-winner Kim McAfee’s high school boyfriend has other ideas. “Bye Bye Birdie” features memorable songs like “Telephone Hour” and the irrepressible “Put on a Happy Face,” along super dance numbers and a large cast of energetic 10-14 year-olds. AARP Information Center needs volunteers to staff their office. Duties include helping seniors find various services and programs, and providing information on senior needs. VOLUNTEER
OPPORTUNITIES

Ongoing:
Sacred Heart Community Service needs teen or adult volunteers as well as accompanying students on weekly field trips at the Academic Summer Day Camp program. Tutors must be at least high school juniors and 16 years old. Adults and college students are welcome. High school sophomores may join with a recommendation letter from their high school principal.
