Community Input Sought for Next Planning Director
The City of San José is recruiting its next Department Director for Planning, Building & Code Enforcement (PBCE). To help define the characteristics of the ideal candidate for this important City and community position, the public is invited to attend one of five meetings or complete an on-line survey.
Background
The City of San José has begun the recruitment process for the Planning Director, head of the Department of Planning, Building & Code Enforcement (PBCE). The Planning Director will play a key role in shaping the landscape of our City for decades to come. San José is home to a large and diverse population that cares about development and quality of life issues such as neighborhood conditions, traffic, affordable housing, new park land, safe and attractive buildings, and preserving land for jobs. Because these issues are so important to those who live, work and play in San José, the City is hosting five public meetings and making an on-line survey available to anyone interested in helping to define the characteristics of the ideal candidate for this important position.
PBCE is one of the City’s largest and most visible service providers helping almost 70,000 customers annually. The Director, in managing a professional staff of over 300 employees and an annual budget of $36.3 million, is responsible for current and long-range planning, building plan check and inspection, and code enforcement.
