California Theatre Center (CTC) presents “The Woman in Black,” returning to Sunnyvale by popular demand is of one of CTC’s greatest hits! A thrilling, edge-of-your seat ghost story! California Theatre Center (CTC) presents “They're Playing Our Song”. This Broadway hit musical by Neil Simon, Marvin Hamlisch and Carol Bayer Sager is based on the real-life relationship of songwriters Hamlisch and Sager. Composer Vernon who is in need of a new lyricist, meets kooky, incurable romantic Sonia, and they dislike each other at first sight. Clearly the match is not one made in heaven! The two undergo a series of trials and overcome a number of hurdles before finding true love by the final curtain. Performances are June 7 (Preview), 8 (Opening), with various dates continuing through July 27. Matinees performances are also available. The new Santa Teresa Farmers’ Market is opening at the Kaiser Permanente facility in San Jose at the corner of Santa Teresa Blvd and Camino Verde. It will run every Saturday from 9am to 1pm through November 17, so bring the whole family down for food and fun. Grand Opening is celebration is June 16.

Children’s Musical Theatre of San Jose presents “Disney’s High School Musical.” Disney Channel’s smash hit movie musical comes to life this summer! While on family vacations, high school jock and basketball star Troy and brainy Gabriella, two teens who are worlds apart meet and find a mutual love for music, and form a summer crush. The stage production of High School Musical performs the same songs that made the top of the billboard – “Start of Something New,” “Breaking Free,” and “We’re all in this Together.” Staged at the Montgomery Theater, admission is $13 - $16. Calling all 5-10 year olds to get busy learning about bees! Join the Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens from 10 – 11:30 a.m. for a look inside an observation hive watching bees at work – can you spot the queen? Learn how the bees make honey and sample different kinds of honey. Discover how bees communicate by performing a bee boogey. Cost is $12/members $15/non-members. Children do not have to be accompanied by parents for this workshop. Register for the children and the adult bee workshop and get a $4.00 discount. Yoga in the Park- Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens presents this gentle introduction to yoga led by instructor Kristin Strellis. This course is designed to improve your flexibility, balance and relaxation. All necessary equipment will be provided for your use. Please dress in comfortable clothing and be ready to stretch and relax. This class will be taught outside on the grass. Sessions are held Thursdays from 6:15 – 7 p.m. Cost is $30 for GRPG members and $35 for non-members. Pre-registration is required and participants must be 18 years of age or older. Strength Training on the Guadalupe River Park Trail - Learn safe muscle toning and strength building exercises using fitness bands and park features. The A-B-C’s of Bee keeping. Join Santa Clara Valley Bee Guild and Delta Bee Club member, Alan Henninger, and the Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens, from 10-11:30 a.m., for an adult program explaining the mysteries of bees. Learn what is required to set up a hive and get help identifying the inhabitants. Did you know that honey bees are not native to California, or that beekeepers rent out their hives to help pollinate fruit and nut trees? For an added bonus, Nella Henninger will show some of the by-products of beekeeping: honey and beeswax figures and candles. Gain a new found appreciation for some of the hardest working insects on our planet! Cost is $12/members $15/non-members. Attention recently retired or semi retired men! Sons in retirement (SIRS) meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Elks Club, 444 West Alma in San Jose for lunch. Join us for good food, great speakers and the chance to meet new friends. SIRS has many activities including bowling, golf computer clubs. SIRS has no initiation fees or dues. The Evergreen Community Center, 4860 San Felipe Road in San Jose offers a variety of classes and special monthly events, as well as a Senior Nutrition Program. The Nutrition Program serves a delicious and well-balanced meal to seniors 60 and over every Monday – Friday at noon. The suggested donation is $2 per person. Eastside Neighborhood Center of Catholic Charities, 2150 Alum Rock Avenue in San Jose offers a variety of activities and services for seniors on an ongoing basis. These include Bingo, Free legal assistance, Senior club dancing, Senior Care Advocacy, Nutrition Programs, Nurse Screenings, Free Insurance Screenings, and more. The San Jose Widow/Widowers Club meets at 12:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month for lunch at the Cup & Saucer Restaurant, 1375 Blossom Hill Road in Princeton Plaza. AARP Information Center needs volunteers to staff their office. Duties include helping seniors find various services and programs, and providing information on senior needs. The office is located at 840 Willow Street, Suite 300, at the corner of Bird and Willow Streets on bus route #25. Green Challenge 07-09 Official Launch. Help “green” the San Francisco Bay Area! The Volunteer Center Silicon Valley, in partnership with Walt Disney and Point of Lights Foundation announces The Green Challenge—a three-year family volunteer program of fun, hands-on “green” projects to change habits and improve and protect the Bay Area’s environment. Several fun activities at multiple locations are planned from 9 a.m. – noon. for the launch project. History San José is recruiting volunteers and docents. Join the HSJ corps of dedicated volunteers who share the love of history and the love of a pastoral setting. Volunteers receive training of their choice of categories:  school programs, historic building interpretations, archives, photography and object collections; retail store and café; gardening, special events and more. During the summer docents welcome visitors to the historic buildings at History Park weekdays as well as weekends, bringing history alive.  Specific historic buildings are open on a variable schedule throughout the summer. Interested volunteers should contact Barbara Johnston at bjohnston@historysanjose.org or 918-1047. San Jose 2007 Mennonite Church USA Churchwide Convention - San Jose 2007 is the biennial gathering for Mennonite Church USA. Events and activities are planned for all ages – adult, young adult, youth, jr. youth and children. Besides the delegates gathering to tend to the business of the denomination, participants will also enjoy worship services, seminars, and late night performances. Participate in a discussion of the Knights Templar at this month’s Rosicrucian Salon, presented at Rosicrucian Park, 1342 Naglee Avenue in San Jose at 7:30 p.m. The Templars, a monastic order of Knights originally created to protect European pilgrims in Palestine, became much more, and there is evidence of their contacts with counterparts in the Muslim world, working toward a common spirituality as part of the Primordial Tradition. Rosicrucians are considered heirs to Templar esotericism.
