Here kitty, kitty

 

Adopt a kitty. Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV) has 180 cats ready for adoption and available at the Pets in Paradise Adoption Fair on Saturday, June 21.

From 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. persons wanting to adopt a cat, dog, or rabbit can see a huge variety at HSSV, 2530 Lafayette St., Santa Clara. There will be games, activities, snacks and “umbrella drinks.” Check out Society Dog's big green bus.

All animals are spay/neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped and health and behavior tested. For information, call (408) 727-3383.

Earthquakes visit Laurelwood

The San Jose Earthquakes visited Laurelwood School on June 3. Players Jason Hernandez and Matt Hatzke talked to the students about the importance of working hard in school, dreaming big and living a healthy lifestyle. They demonstrated key soccer skills and had Laurelwood students participate in dribbling, juggling and shooting drills.









Bay Area premiere talk and book signing

Author Stephen Ingram, will be at the Evergreen Library on Friday, June 27 from 7-9 p.m.

The spiny succulents of California and Nevada have long been a source of fascination for explorers, naturalists and horticulturists. The newly published book, "Cacti, Agaves and Yuccas of California and Nevada" examines the natural history of these plants, including origins, ecology and conservation. It also provides practical horticultural advice for cultivation. Meet the author at this Bay Area premiere and learn about these unique plants and how to grow them.

The event is free and open to the public.






Indo-American Sikh community celebration scheduled

Punjabi Mela will celebrate diverse cultures Sunday, June 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the campus of Evergreen Valley College. Produced by the Indo-American Sikh community, the event will have more than 40 booths for food, entertainment, and shopping. Admission is free and a health fair will be open from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m.

Scaling the Dome

Brandon Del Rosario, a 5th grader at Ledesma Elementary School, scaled Half Dome, 8836’ feet above the ground in Yosemite National Park on Saturday, June 7.

Brandon trekked many miles in preparation for his ascent, finishing the 16.5 mile climb in just under 10 hours. Brandon was able to overcome his fear of heights when faced with the notoriously steep cables at the base of the dome itself by taking it one step at a time and focusing on his climb. Brandon has worked on starting up a hiking group at Ledesma to help other kids enjoy what he loves so much. He is looking forward to many more treks, and has set his sights on the over 14,000’ peaks in California.


Medical center hosts open house

Dr. Donald Siao and others involved with the business comprising the collective known as Evergreen Community Medical Center held an open house on Friday, June 6. The festive mood welcomed visitors to learn about the family medical practice, Evergreen Pharmacy, lab and Aura medical spa collocated in one facility at 2690 S. White Road, Suite 200.

EBPA business mixer set for June 26

Evergreen Business & Professional Associa-tion (EBPA) invites all members and interested businesses to attend its June 26, 2008 mixer beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the outside patio of Mega Byte, 5623 Silver Creek Valley Road, San Jose. Appetizers will be served. Bring any new business members who would be interested in joining an organization like the EBPA.

Mike McClure with Prepaid Legal will speak regarding membership to the benefits of Prepaid Legal and identity theft protection.

Additionally, guest speaker James MacGregor, publisher of the Silicon Valley San Jose Business Journal, will be speaking on “Pro-moting Your Business with Publishing.” Mr. MacGregor was formerly the director of advertising sales at the San Francisco Business Times.
