Kepler Learning Center will host the San Jose Autism June meeting at their facility, 305 Piercy Road, San Jose at 7 p.m. This outreach event will offer the opportunity for parents of Autistic children to meet and network. Children’s Discovery Museum presents “Top Secret: Mission Toy”: Opening June 21, this exciting exhibit invites children to use their investigative skills to check out toys from around the world in our newest traveling exhibit, created by the Canadian Children's Museum. Explore dolls and balls, robots, puzzles, and secret de-coding devices. Find out why tops are tops and how string can be a fascinating thing in Top Secret: Mission Toy.

Dance Theatre International presents the children's classic fairy tale Ballet, "Sleeping Beauty's Wedding", the Evergreen Valley Performing Arts Center, 3300 Quimby Road (at Ruby) in San Jose. This production is danced to Pytor Tchaikovsky's score, and was especially created for families and children as young as 4 years. This fun-filled 45 minute performance is choreographed by DTI faculty and directed by Maggie Ferla. Sleeping Beauty’s Wedding is part of DTI's two hour Student Showcase that also includes world premier works by choreographer Gregory Dawson, formerly of Lines Ballet. Performance times are 3:30 and 7 p.m. Family-friendly pricing of $15 per ticket will be available 45 minutes before each show. Photo opportunity with characters at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Photo fee is $5. Check out the full-filled Summer Classes offered by the Friends of Guadalupe River Park and Gardens: Selections include Fitness Fun, Fossil Finders, Little Sprouts, Pioneer Parade and Nature Navigators. Most classes are from 9 a.m. to noon and are designed for children aged 5 – 7. The cost is $30. The Nature Navigators session is for children age 7 – 10 and runs from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. the fee is $40. All sessions take place at the Visitor & Education Center located at 438 Coleman Ave, San Jose, CA 95110. Pre-registration is required and parents need not be present during the workshop. Children’s Musical Theater celebrates 40th anniversary with free party in the park: CMT will host a free “Party in the Park” from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Plaza de Cesar Chavez in downtown San Jose. Open to anyone and everyone, this event includes performances by CMT members , a sneak preview of the 2008/09 CMT season, multi media entertainment, children’s games and an enormous cake to feed the expected 3000 people attending the event.

Kids in Parks - Summer Day Camp at Santa Teresa County Park's Historic Bernal-Gulnac-Joice Ranch
Held Monday – Friday from 9a.m. -2 p.m. each day, campers will explore local history and nature through fun outdoor activities and adventures with Park Staff. Each day offers new and different topics to explore, while building a healthy, respectful relationship with the natural, cultural and historic resources in or near their neighborhoods. A maximum of 20 campers aged 9-11 years will be accepted. The fee is $150 per child. Please call Mary Berger at 323-0107 for program and registration information.

Friends of Guadalupe River Park and Gardens Summer Walking Series: Get fit in the beautiful setting of Guadalupe River Park’s paved trails! Whether you are an avid walker or new to a walking program, you will learn about proper equipment, walking technique, stretching and beneficial strength exercises for walkers while meeting others who enjoy walking. Instructor Kristin Strellis will lead this 8-week Saturday series along with weekly emails of encouragement and walking tips. Session times are 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Fees are $30/members and $40/non-members. Pre-registration is required and participants must be 18 years of age or older. Humane Society Silicon Valley is actively seeking volunteers to provide foster care to kittens and dogs. Foster families provide long and short-term care for animal families in their homes. Summer of Service at Children’s Discovery Museum is a great way for youth to enjoy their summer while serving the community. Youth grades 7 through 10 participate on one of five teams, each with its own theme of service. These themes include community outreach, early childhood education, environment and ecology, media and museum, and leadership development. Participants work in shelters, senior centers, and development centers; serve as role models and mentors for pre-school aged children while assisting classroom teachers; perform restoration projects throughout the county; volunteer in Children’s Discovery Museum while building media and technology skills; and build leadership skills while planning special projects and facilitating many important aspects of the program. Jewish Family Services of Silicon Valley (JFS) will host the first ever Silicon Valley Duck Race at Vasona Lake County Park, 333 Blossom Hill Road in Los Gatos. A festival filled with entertainment, food and games will kick-off the event, followed by the duck race where 10,000 individually numbered rubber ducks will pour from a dump truck into a creek at Vasona Lake County Park and race into Vasona Lake. The top twenty winners of the race will have the opportunity to win one of several great prizes, including the chance to win $1,000,000. Proceeds from the Duck Race will benefit JFS and other local non-profits. San Jose Amateur Radio volunteers participate in annual Field Day: San Jose RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service) is a group of volunteer radio amateurs (“hams”) sanctioned by the city of San Jose to provide emergency communications support. Field day is an annual, national ham radio activity. On the fourth weekend in June every year, ham radio operators around the U.S. and Canada set up their stations under simulated emergency conditions and contact other hams all over the country, from Hawaii to Maine and from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland.. Many groups, including San Jose RACES, use portable equipment and emergency power sources, from generators to solar cells and windmills. Location is Nobel Park, 3321 Noble Avenue in San Jose from 11 a.m. on 6/28 to 11 a.m. on 6/29.

The Evergreen Chapter of Society Dog announces weekly walks: These free walks happen every Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. We will do a different walk each week, so check the Society Dog website for weekly details. The walk is followed by "Yappy Hour" at a dog friendly restaurant. Everyone is invited, but you must sign up as a member (Basic Membership is free) & agree to the terms of participation.
